Pristine Architecture
Munich began as a town from the 12th century and has survived since. Its struggle, strife and evolution are etched all over the town in the form of its beautiful buildings – churches, palaces and museums. Some of the notable structures are mentioned below:
Cathedral Church of our Lady:
Built in 15th century A.D., this church has retained art from the five centuries of its existence. The architecture speaks of its rich history and ancient wisdom, while the modern city around it grows and thrives. The metropolitan church of the Archbishop of Munich-Freising is truly a majestic site to behold.
Nymphenburg Palace:
Built in the 16th century, as a gift by Ferdinand Maria to his wife, on the occasion of the birth of his heir, this strong structure has truly passed the test of time. Built in the baroque style, prevalent under the Roman Empire’s extent then, this palace tells tales of evolving architecture in Munich, Bavaria.
BMW Museum:
A must-see for all automotive enthusiasts! The official tourism website of Munich recommends viewing the “time horizons“ exhibition to review the history of the great BMW manufacture. Visit Munich to get up close and personal.
Munchin‘ in Munich!
Any travel guide is incomplete without a proper platter navigation. When in Bavaria, eat what the Bavarians eat…and drink beer, lot of beer! Fun fact: Weißwurst is a breakfast sausage that is traditionally eaten for late breakfast along with a Weissbier or white beer. The food-lovers are in for a treat with snacks like Schweinsbraten and Leberkässemmeln. Those with a sweet tooth can try out the Bavarian/Austrian cakes and tortes at the local bakeries…mmm…yummy! A visit to Munich is not complete without a pint!
Souvenir Galore!
Though a metropolitan with fairly high cost of living, shopping in Munich is a delight in itself for tourists. From quick or hurried souvenir collection for friends, to a casual leisurely stroll on a free Sunday, the markets of Munich cater to the needs of every customer. One of the notable places to visit is Olympic Einkaufszentrum. Built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, this shopping centre is a mall with a difference. What are the surprises it beholds? Check it out for yourself and visit Munich!
Cheers!
